What is the difference between a DJ and a Master of Ceremonies? There is a difference between a DJ and a Master of Ceremonies. A DJ will show up with their equipment and play songs, and that's all they will do. A Master of Ceremonies provides the equipment and the songs, but they also provide event coordination. This includes planning the events for the reception. Making sure that everything is organized and placed on a time schedule. A Master of Ceremonies also makes the announcements of the events that are to take place, all of this in a professional manner. Why do I see so many different prices for DJ services? Since there is no standard when it comes to what a DJ charges, the cost varies widely. The question you want to ask yourself is what services are a part of the package that you purchase. Some DJ's only provide playing music, while others "get involved" with your guests, making sure that everyone is having a good time. Some DJ's have elaborate lighting systems and include these in with their packages. Just find out what you need and find the best package that fits your budget. Will I be charged if the event last longer than 4 hours? There usually is a fee if the reception lasts longer than the 4 hours previously agreed upon. Make sure that you speak with your DJ when you sign the contract regarding this fee.Can my guests request songs? Guests may request songs, however most DJ'sI cannot guarantee that they will be played. Due to liability, songs with explicit lyrics cannot be played. This can be decided prior to the reception. How far in advance do I need to "book" a DJ? There are peak times during the year for weddings, spring and summer. Atlanta and the surrounding vicinities has approximately 35,000 weddings per year, so booking your DJ at least 6 months in advance, is recommended. What does the DJ wear for the reception? Most events require the DJ to wear a tuxedo. Sometimes, a tuxedo is not requested...but a suit is preferred. Then there are times when the reception has a theme, such as a luau.
